Czech Centres Abroad

Czech Centres are a contributory organization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, established to promote the Czech Republic abroad. On the international stage Czech Centres promote the Czech Republic in all fields of art, culture, science, education, trade and tourism and actively reinforce the perception of the Czech Republic throughout the world as a modern and creative country with a rich cultural tradition. The network of Czech Centres abroad is an active tool of the foreign policy of the Czech Republic in the area of public diplomacy. The Czech Centres network consists of the Czech Centres Headquarters in Prague, 22 branches abroad and the Czech House Moscow. It is also a member of the EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) network.

The Czech Centre Seoul was established on February 1, 2013 and officially opened three months later as a 22nd branch in the network of Czech Centres and besides New York, Tel Aviv and Tokyo the 4th centre outside of Europe. Aside from the institutes of France, Germany, Italy and Great Britain it represents the 5th European cultural institute in the Republic of Korea. The Czech Centre Seoul was originally located in the Castle Praha - a building designed similarly to Prague's Old Town City Hall, in the well-known area around Hongik University. Currently the seat of the Czech Centre Seoul is in the building of previous embassy close to the Gyeongbok Royal Palace in the historical city center of the capital. In a close cooperation with important Korean partners the Czech Centre Seoul organizes regularly various cultural and educational events as exhibitions, film screenings, theatre and dance performances, lectures and workshops. It also supports publishing of Czech literature in Korea. Moreover it assists establishing contacts between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Korea in all fields of social and cultural life and makes efforts to develop mutual exchange between both of the countries in general.
