Czechoslovakia 1918 &1968

An exhibition “Czechoslovakia 1918 &1968” was launched on a state reception held by the Embassy of the Czech Republic and the Embassy of the Slovak Republic on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Czechoslovakia. More than 300 guests had an opportunity to taste the Pilsen beer and other Czech and Slovak traditional food and drinks. During the speech Ambassador Tomáš Husák highlighted key moments of Czechoslovakian history and the Ambassador Milan Lajčiak explained the circumstances of the division of Czechoslovakia and the establishment of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic.

The first part of the exhibition „1918“ focusing on the establishment of Czechoslovakia and the most significant politicians, who contributed to the establishment of a new state, offered a brief and approachable overview of the Czechoslovakian society, culture, trade and industry during the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic (1918-1938).

The second part „1968“ delt with the Prague Spring and the following Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia. The goal of the exhibition is to provide a general overview by setting it in an international and historical context. Besides the development preceding and following the Prague Spring and the Warsaw Pact invasion, the exhibition engages in Czechoslovakian culture, art and society in 1960s.
